Chronic Pain Relief: How Does it Work?
How it works
The active ingredient in Venodol is cobra venom. Cobra venom contains several small proteins that exert analgesic and immune-modulating activity. Generally, it is thought that these proteins influence the immune system to control the body’s response to injury. Animal and human studies show that the effect of the drug takes some time to reveal itself so Venodol is not suitable for the relief of acute (sudden onset) pain. Your response time to Venodol will vary depending on a number of factors including the severity and nature of your pain. Once pain relief is achieved, the application frequency can be adjusted to an as-needed basis.
What is a homeopathic drug?
The primary concept of homeopathy is “like can treat like,” a term that means a condition may be relieved or cured by an unrelated component that causes similar symptoms. Many drugs in use prior to the 1900s may be considered homeopathic and most homeopathic drugs originate from plant, animal and mineral sources. Cobra venom has long been known to have neurological effects, hence it was chosen to treat neurological conditions including pain.
Historical Use of Cobra Venom
Cobra venom has great medicinal importance and its application has been mentioned in Ayurvedic, Unani, Chinese and homeopathic systems of medicine. It was used for the treatment of cancer and arthritis in ancient China. The use of cobra venom as an analgesic in the United States was first initiated by Macht, a researcher working with the Pharmacological Research Laboratory Hynson, Wescott and Dunning (HWD) Inc. of Baltimore, Maryland, where pre-clinical and clinical investigations were undertaken. An injectable form of cobra venom was approved by the FDA on the basis of its safety profile around 1940 and an improved formula was approved in the 1950s. In the 1970s, HWD was acquired and this form of the drug was no longer available.
These claims are based upon traditional homeopathic theories and have not been substantiated by direct scientific evidence, accepted by most modern medical experts, or evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
